A Brand with a Special Invitation

The Minnesota chapter of the Jane Austen Society of North America was ready to bring Jane Austen into the 21st century and invited Van Santen Studio to the party. Naturally, I rose to the occasion and brought my friends and collaborative partners at Visivox along. After all, Jane said, “One cannot have too large a party.”

Creating a logo for a well-known literary figure was a challenging, yet exciting, task. We first submerged ourselves in everything Jane Austen and did extensive research. (Having Jane Austen admirers in our ranks, we were quite happy to do so!) We created a quippy, clever, and witty brand experience that delights Jane Austen enthusiasts across multiple generations.

The logo is a single-line, hand-drawn, modern silhouette of Jane. The book in the center forms the bow on the side of her head. Jane Austen’s signature completes the mark. I also illustrated an icon library to be used throughout marketing communications and can be used individually or in combination.

I curated a photo library to help balance out the brand and keep it relevant and contemporary for years to come.
